After the road trip to Mombasa and before our ride out to Kitui, it was family day. Nduku has three sisters. The four of them have six children. And for the first time they were all together — the sisters and their children — at the same place at the same time. But getting them all to pay attention at the same time is another thing.
We all got together to venture out to Lukenya Getaway just outside of Nairobi. Interesting conversation talking to Charles, Nduku’s brother-in-law, and his brothers. Their insight to where Kenya is today and where it’ll be in the coming years was enlightening.
But it was a time for the kids to hang out together.
Lukenya Getaway is out in the middle of nowhere. It’s off the beaten path, at the end of a bumpy dirt road, an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There’s a peacefulness out there, enough that wildlife feels safe being out there grazing.
Later in the evening we all went to the Malombe home where the four sisters and all the grandchildren got together with mzee and wife for a family picture in which there’s no telling when this may happen again.
