For our summer beach trip, we ventured out a bit further than usual, heading out to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Growing up in North Carolina, I always wanted to visit where the first airplane took flight so we chose Kitty Hawk. The ladies had only one preference — a beach.
None of us can swim. And Najwa is still just young enough to not necessarily understand that the ocean can be an unforgiving force of nature. So, I took some preliminary caution and wrapped her up in a life jacket with a whistle to blow in case she got swept away, googles, and arm floats.
We grabbed a quick lunch at Pigman’s. The food was good, a lot more affordable than some of the finer dining. We wanted a simple, family-friendly atmosphere with good food.
Fortunately, Najwa wasn’t trying to test out all her new floating devices. When she was younger, she’d haphazardly run out to the crashing waves. This trip, though, her feet told her to test the water first before plunging in.
